Daniel O'Donnell to sing in memory of his late mother

By Nevin Farrell

Daniel O'Donnell says a concert performance in Donegal next Sunday to help raise money for Dungloe Community Hospital, where his 94-year-old mum Julia was treated before her death last year, will be an emotional occasion.

The 53-year-old star is on an extended break from the music business but has agreed to perform at the fundraiser for the hospital as a thank you to the staff.

Daniel said: "We are looking forward to a great day at the concert.

"For myself and the rest of the family it will be tinged with sadness as it was at this time last year that my mother passed away."

Mrs O'Donnell was well known among her son's fans for hosting tea parties at the family home in Donegal's Kincasslagh.

O'Donnell last performed in February on a Caribbean cruise before an 18-month break to spend time with his wife Majella, who is recovering from cancer.

Tickets for Country Music Sunday in Dungloe cost €20 (free for children) from outlets including Ticketmaster.
