Debbie Rush quits Coronation Street after nine years
Debbie Rush has been a favourite in Weatherfield since she joined the ITV soap as Anna Windass in 2008.
Debbie Rush is leaving Coronation Street after nine years of playing Anna Windass.
The actress joined the cast of the ITV soap in 2008 and has since enjoyed some exciting story lines, including being involved in a massive car explosion and getting blackmailed into sex.
But now Debbie has revealed she is saying goodbye to Weatherfield, in a bid to further her acting career with different roles.
"I have had an amazing nine years on Coronation Street and the decision to leave was not made lightly," she said in a statement. "I love playing Anna I don't know what the future holds but I am excited to explore what other acting opportunities are out there. I am very grateful for all the brilliant storylines I have been given during my time on Coronation Street and am very much looking forward to what is in store for Anna in the run up to my departure next year."
Debbie will film her final scenes later this year (17), with her exit airing early in 2018. And while details of her departure have yet to be revealed, producer Kate Oates promised viewers it will be an explosive one.
"It's always sad when a huge talent like Debbie Rush decides to move to pastures new," Kate said. "But Debbie's decision to pursue other roles will allow us to play an exciting exit story for Anna, which will see her fighting for her family and tackling old enemies head-on."
Fans have already started speculating about how Anna will leave Corrie, with some reckoning she will take on Phelan, played by Connor McIntyre. Phelan was responsible for blackmailing her into getting intimate with him and Anna has never really got her revenge, meaning it could be an exciting way for her to exit the show.
