Dennis Tanner heads back to Corrie

Coronation Street's original bad boy Dennis Tanner is returning to the cobbles.

Philip Lowrie, who appeared in the first episode of the soap in 1960, is reprising the role and will hit screens in May.

Dennis, son of Corrie legend Elsie Tanner, moved in with his mum after being released from prison.

He left the Street in 1968, when he married Jenny Sutton and moved to Bristol, but viewers were kept up to date with his antics.

The character's return will mean a reunion with former sparring partner Ken Barlow (William Roache), who was also in the soap's first episode.

Philip begins filming in March and is thought to have signed up for a six-month stint in the ITV1 soap.
