Director 'has abuse claims alibi'

Hollywood director Bryan Singer has credit card receipts, telephone records and production schedules from the first film in the X-Men franchise which show that he was not in Hawaii when it is claimed he sexually abused a 17-year-old boy, his lawyer has said.

Marty Singer told the Associated Press that Singer was in Toronto working on his first major studio film from August until October 1999. A lawsuit filed by a former child model says Singer abused him several times during that period.

A lawyer for Michael Egan III, who filed the lawsuit, did not immediately respond to phone calls seeking comment.

The lawsuit was filed under a Hawaii law which temporarily suspends the statute of limitations in sex-abuse cases.
