Disco legends Chic to headline Belsonic Festival

By Amanda Ferguson

Disco legends Chic have been revealed as the headline act for the Belsonic music festival later this summer.

Festival organisers have confirmed that Nile Rodgers and the rest of the globally successful group will be the main act on stage at Custom House Square in Belfast on Tuesday, August 19.

It is Chic's only show in Northern Ireland this year.

Chic, fronted by songwriting genius and musician Nile Rodgers, have experienced phenomenal success since the 1970s and a resurgence in popularity over the last couple of years.

They recently collaborated with Daft Punk on worldwide hit Get Lucky – Lose Yourself To Dance, and their impressive back catalogue of hits includes floor-fillers such as Good Times, Everybody Dance, We Are Family and Let's Dance.

Alan Simms from Shine Productions said: "Chic are a legendary live act and have played some fantastic sold-out shows in Northern Ireland over the last few years. We are delighted to be bringing them to Belsonic."

A range of other acts have also been revealed, including Twin Atlantic, Brody Dalle, Daniel James and The Minutes.

Tickets go on sale on Friday at 9am priced from £30 plus a booking fee.

Chic fans will need to be fast, as the last time the band played in Northern Ireland, as part of the Derry-Londonderry City of Culture celebrations last year, 4,000 tickets for a gig at The Venue sold out in under two hours.

A host of music stars will be putting on some great live performances throughout one week this August at Belsonic .

On Friday August 15, Example, AKA Elliot Gleave, will top the bill and on Sunday, August 17 Scottish rock outfit, Biffy Clyro, will have Custom House Square jumping. Dublin quartet Kodaline headline on Monday August 18, before Chic and then Queens of the Stoneage thrill Belfast on Tuesday, August 19 and Wednesday, August 20 respectively.

On Friday, August 22 Las Vegas-based four-piece Imagine Dragons will take to the Belsonic stage in Belfast's Cathedral Quarter.

Belsonic has been a huge success since it was launched in 2008.

However, organisers have said they are confident Belsonic 2014 "will boast the festival's strongest line-up to date".
