Djalili: My fight with calories

Omid Djalili has revealed he's on a calorie-controlled diet so he doesn't "blow up".

The rotund comedian is going back on tour for the first time in three-and-a-half years, and said he was worried about eating too much like he used to.

He said: "I eat far too much on tour, but then again, three years ago I wasn't on a calorie-controlled diet. I'm now fighting with calories just to keep me on the same weight I am so I don't blow up."

The Iranian funnyman said he realised he needed to watch his weight after his knees gave in while playing football, and after catching sight of himself in a mirror one day.

He said: "I was very unconscious of my appearance, I never really paid much attention to it, it was only recently when I saw myself and I was horrified that I decided to do something about it. I'd look stupid in a t-shirt and jeans so I thought I'd wear a suit, and I looked ridiculous, like a regional manager at Asda."

He now tries to stick to about 1,500 to 2,000 calories a day and, although he hasn't lost any weight, says he's not put any on either.

He joked: "I think I will do a Ricky Gervais. I'll start jogging and I'll whiten my teeth. I might even get one of those toupees some men wear."

:: Omid Djalili: Tour Of Duty kicks off on October 14.
