Ex-Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers proposes to Charlotte Searle in New York's Times Square just 68 days after signing divorce papers
Former Liverpool FC boss Brendan Rodgers has popped the question to his girlfriend in New York - 68 days after divorcing his wife of 14 years.
Mum-of-one Charlotte Searle accepted his proposal, which he made on bended knee in Times Square during a weekend break in the Big Apple.
If that doesn't sound romantic enough, Northern Ireland man Brendan asked for the 33-year-old's hand in marriage on Valentine's Day itself.
The 43-year-old's big gesture was spotted by Reds fan Craig Allen, who said he saw him hand Ms Searle a bouquet of roses before getting down on one knee.
"I saw this bloke proposing and took snaps to show my girlfriend," reported Mr Allen, who was waiting outside a store while his partner shopped inside.
"I was gobsmacked when I saw it was Rodgers. They stopped off in a Mercedes, he popped the question in front of a photographer, put the ring on, and away they went."
Carnlough native Rodgers separated from his wife Susan (42) in summer 2014 after 24 years together, 14 of them as a married couple. The pair have two children: Anton (21) and an 18-year-old daughter Mischa.
Their divorce forced them to split their multi-million pound property empire, consisting of 102 houses.
The buy-to-let portfolio cost £32,000 just to be valued, and is believed to be worth tens of millions of pounds.
Following the breakdown of their relationship the former Swansea and Reading boss moved from the family home into a £1.5m Merseyside apartment.
Their divorce was finalised on December 7 last year.
Since the relationship broke down Rodgers has undergone an image makeover, spending thousands of pounds having his teeth whitened and losing weight.
Ms Searle, a former travel co-ordinator at Anfield, who has a young daughter by her former husband Steven Hind, began dating Rodgers - who was paid £5m-a-year as the club's manager - in 2013. Hers was a bitter break-up after just 17 months of marriage, and Mr Hind (33) was handed a restraining order after sending a series of angry text messages about Rodgers to his ex-wife. Ms Searle had applied for a non-molestation order forbidding him from contacting her or going within 50 metres of her home in Southport.
The Rodgers' split came just 18 months after they were depicted on a fly-on-the-wall documentary as happily married, with the narrator stating: "Rodgers has been with Susan since his teens and remains devoted to her. She's not some trophy wife he picked up after he had attained a bit of fame."
Out-of-work Rodgers has recently received big-money offers to return to management in England and China.
It has been reported that Rodgers, sacked by Liverpool last year, was a target for Beijing Guoan before they appointed veteran Italian coach Alberto Zaccheroni last month.
However, newspapers have reported that other clubs are interested in employing the 43-year-old.
