Flautist Eimear McGeown hits high notes with unique first album

By Staff Reporter

A Craigavon-born virtuoso flautist has mixed electronica, music from a video game and Irish trad on her first solo album.

Eimear McGeown has steadily built a reputation as one of the world's most versatile exponents of both the classical and Irish flute.

The 15 tracks include new arrangements of well known Irish traditional tunes - as well as the jig for the popular video game Runescape, and her first composition, Inis.

There is even her take on the popular hits The Sound of Silence and Teardrop.

"I have always wanted to break down the barriers of people's perceptions of music whether it is classical, traditional or pop - it's all good music!" said Eimear. Ciaran Scullion, head of music at the Arts Council of NI, which supported the album, said: "Eimear is an international level, award-winning musician and with this album is firmly establishing herself as a contemporary, classical-trad flautist. Congratulations!"

Inis is out on now on Amazon, iTunes and
