Frank Lampard and Christine Bleakley's summer wedding 'on hold'

By Chris Kilpatrick

Television star Christine Bleakley's summer wedding to England footballer Frank Lampard is reported to have been given the red card.

The 34-year-old from Newtownards was set to tie the knot with the Chelsea player in June – but now it's believed the couple have postponed their nuptials due to uncertainty over his football future. Lampard, also 34, is out of contract with the Premier League side at the end of this season.

With no new deal on the table Lampard looks likely to continue his illustrious career away from Stamford Bridge.

A source close to former ITV Daybreak presenter Christine was quoted in a Sunday newspaper as saying: "She and Frank really want to get married – they have been engaged for nearly two years. But they thought that as they have very little idea of where they could end up, the best thing was to cancel.

"They knew exactly what sort of wedding they wanted and everyone was looking forward to it, but now it is just impossible. They will start thinking about it again when they know which club Frank will be playing at. Everything is so up in the air."

The celebrity couple had been planning their dream wedding for this summer after Dancing On Ice host Christine revealed last December they would marry this year. They are believed to have been looking at venues in Northern Ireland for the ceremony.

Rather than a lavish wedding packed with celebrities, they are said to favour a low-key ceremony with family and friends. But that could change if Lampard opts to sign for David Beckham's former club in America, LA Galaxy, which has expressed an interest in acquiring the midfielder.

He is also being targeted by French side Paris Saint-Germain and Italian giants AC Milan. The couple were pictured enjoying the spring sun in London last week.

Story so far

Christine Bleakley and Frank Lampard met at a party three-and-a-half years ago. When asked about their wedding plans in December, Christine said: "I can tell you it will be in 2013." Christine regularly attends Chelsea matches to cheer on her fiancé and is often shown along with his daughters, Luna (7) and Isla (5).
