Full cast announced for touring stage production of Rain Man
Mathew Horne and Ed Speleers will be play the two lead roles in the adaptation of the film.
The full cast for a touring stage adaptation of Oscar-winning film Rain Man, starring Mathew Horne and Ed Speleers, has been announced.
Gavin And Stacey star Horne, 39, and Downton Abbey’s Speleers, 30, will be playing the parts of brothers Raymond and Charlie Babbitt, previously portrayed on the big screen by Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise.
Joining them will be theatre stars Mairi Barclay (Pippin), Hannah Barker and Elizabeth Carter (Dreamboats And Petticoats), Adam Lilley (The 39 Steps), Neil Roberts (Mamma Mia!) and Joe Sellman Leava (Monster).
The show will open at Theatre Royal Windsor before visiting Milton Keynes, Cardiff, Eastbourne, Southend, Edinburgh, Cambridge, Brighton, Guildford, Leeds, Richmond, Derby and Northampton, with more dates to be announced.
The production has been devised by producer Bill Kenwright’s Classic Screen to Stage Theatre Company, and follows its adaptations of Hollywood films The Shawshank Redemption and Twelve Angry Men.
The story follows materialistic salesman Charlie who sets out to get a share of his family fortune which has been left to his long-lost brother Raymond, who is autistic and a genius with numbers.
The original 1988 movie won Academy Awards for best picture, best screenplay and Hoffman was named best actor for his performance as Raymond.
A previous stage adaptation of the film, featuring Men Behaving Badly actor Neil Morrissey as Raymond and Green Wing star Oliver Chris as Charlie, toured the UK in 2009.
