Gemma Atkinson fancies a twirl on Strictly Come Dancing

Gemma Atkinson would "never say never" to returning to medical drama Casualty.

Gemma Atkinson would love to compete on Strictly Come Dancing.

The 32-year-old actress is currently starring in ITV soap Emmerdale, and recently dismissed claims she had decided to quit the soap after two years playing Carly Hope.

But being kept busy on the programme doesn't mean Gemma has to stop exploring other ventures - with a twirl around Strictly's dance floor top of her bucket list.

However, the pretty brunette isn't sure how she would cope dancing in heels.

"I'd love to do Strictly - I've never been asked before but it would be really great to learn how to dance," she told The Sun newspaper. "I'm not sure how I'd handle in the high heels though. I'm used to wearing my Converse so that might be difficult."

Gemma first found fame playing Lisa Hunter in Hollyoaks, before she was cast on medical drama Casualty. She left that programme in 2014, but added to The Sun that she wouldn't rule out a return to the series.

"I'd love to go back to Casualty - I mean I've always said never say never," she smiled. "You know I think if anything is left open which Casualty was for me, you know the odd cameo here and there isn't going to hurt anyone.

"I absolutely loved it and I loved the people - the only downside was that it was down in Cardiff."

As well as her acting career, Gemma also hosts a breakfast radio show on Manchester station Key 103 from 6am to 10am. After that she heads over to Leeds to film scenes for the soap until 7pm. The busy schedule doesn't worry Gemma, who added: "I normally get up at about four and then go on my bike at home for about half an hour and then I have my breakfast.

"I leave home at about 20 past five to be there for half five so it's not too bad really. I go to bed at 10 so I get about six hours sleep so it's fine and I get my weekends to lay in - I'm kind of of the mentality that I should do it while I can. Do it while I'm young!"
