Gemma Atkinson joins Strictly Come Dancing line-up
Gemma Atkinson is thrilled she can finally tell people about her Strictly Come Dancing gig.
Gemma Atkinson is the latest celebrity announced to be competing on this year's Strictly Come Dancing.
The 32-year-old actress and former glamour model will be hoping for success on the BBC talent show when it returns to screens later this year (17).
"I am honoured to be asked and so thrilled to be joining Strictly Come Dancing 2017," she said in a statement. "I’m beyond excited and incredibly nervous but I am looking forward to learning a new skill in ballroom and latin dancing and taking on this new challenge."
Gemma is currently kept busy with her co-hosting job on Manchester radio station Key 103's breakfast show, which she will continue to present as she trains for Strictly.
Her new gig was announced on BBC Breakfast on Thursday morning, with Gemma admitting she's relieved she can now tell people other than her mum.
"I can finally say I'm doing it! Sorry for lying!" she laughed, before adding: "I'm looking forward to just learning to dance as it's out of my comfort zone. Even wearing heels for me is a big thing. Putting me in a sparkling frock is out of my comfort zone.
"I want to challenge myself and do something I've never done before. I did disco dancing from the age of nine to 10 but that was kind of cartwheels across the floor, eat my pic 'n' mix and go home.
"As far as any dance training goes, I haven't had any. After a few drinks I think I'm Britney Spears but I'm not at all!"
Gemma will be joining previously announced contestants Ruth Langsford, Mollie King and EastEnders actor Davood Ghadami on the series.
