Gervais mulling Derek third series

Ricky Gervais has said he is thinking about making a third series of a programme for the first time ever, with his sitcom Derek.

The comedian made two series and a special for both The Office and Extras, but told Digital Spy that he was considering extending Derek's run.

He said: "It's the first time I've ever considered doing a third series of something.

"I think I certainly want to do the two series and a special for Derek and then see. I don't want to make TV for the sake of it.

"You have other ideas and also you don't want to outstay your welcome."

Derek, about a nursing home caretaker, was written and directed by Ricky, who also stars in the title role.

Series two has just launched on Channel 4 and also stars Kerry Godliman, David Earl and Karl Pilkington, who all appeared in the first series, too.

Kerry, who plays care home worker Hannah, said she would love to appear in another series of the show.

She said: "Definitely. There are lots of new places to take it.

"As we keep moving forward, the show will throw up a lot of new stories - life does that. Is there more to say? The show is so human that that is like saying, 'Is there more to say in real life? I ruddy hope so!"
