Selena Gomez has opened up about her parents' divorce, revealing that it was a tough time for her.
Her parents Mandy and Ricardo split when the Wizards Of Waverly Place star was five years old and she was raised by her mum, who remarried in 2006.
"I wanted a family so bad. I wanted to have my dad and my mum together. So it was really, it was really hard," she said in the E! Entertainment Special: Selena Gomez, airing on US screens on June 29.
But the 18-year-old actress said she owes her success and fame to mum Mandy: "My mum was the best. She was everything."
Selena, who shot to fame after starring in the Disney Channel TV series, admitted her job can be surreal at times.
"This is a very superficial job. I sit in a chair for two hours and get hair and make-up done and talk about [myself] in interviews. That's a very vain thing to do. And I do get caught up in it sometimes. I do," she revealed.
The starlet added she didn't set out to become a role model.
"I never really said I want to be a role model. But then when it happened, I was so down for it," she said.
"I'm human, I'm not perfect. I make mistakes all the time, but I guess my job is to keep those mistakes to myself, which I'm already fine doing and just try to be the best I can be for those kids."
