Good Morning Britain's Charlotte Hawkins announced for Strictly Come Dancing
Charlotte Hawkins is the fourth member of the Good Morning Britain team to try her luck on Strictly Come Dancing.
Newsreader Charlotte Hawkins is the eleventh celebrity confirmed to star on BBC talent show Strictly Come Dancing.
The 42-year-old, who graces the small screen daily on ITV's Good Morning Britain, will be vying for the glitterball trophy when the programme returns later this year (17).
Charlotte made the announcement on Good Morning Britain on Monday, during her presentation of the news.
"The breaking news is we can announce the 11th contestant to join Strictly is... me!" she gleefully told the audience.
Richard Arnold, who previously competed on the programme, then bounded onto the set to talk to Charlotte about the new gig, at which point the pretty blonde said: "Nobody knows, I've kept it a secret from literally everybody. I'm really sorry to my friends and my family. Surprise!"
Charlotte will be the fourth member of the Good Morning Britain team to try her luck on the show, following in the footsteps of Richard, Kate Garraway and Susanna Reid.
Kate, who finished in eighth position out of 14 contestants, asked Charlotte: "What we need to know Charlotte is, 'Are you going to do well?' I was a disgrace, Richard was better. Susanna was amazing. She wasn't working with us at the time though. Can you fly the flag for Good Morning Britain?"
Charlotte then said that her previous dance experience is likely to give her an edge over other contestants, revealing: "I did dancing as a child. I did a bit of ballet. I do a bit of dancing round the kitchen with my two year old, but I don't know if that counts?"
Charlotte's announcement came after she revealed in a statement: "I am so thrilled to be one of the contestants on Strictly this year! I've always been a big fan of the show. It is a dream come true to be taking part and I'll be following in the footsteps of my Good Morning Britain colleagues.
"I'm looking forward to stepping out from behind the news desk to cha-cha-cha my way across the dance floor!"
