Hairy Bikers: Asia trip was a dream

The Hairy Bikers have said that their new TV series in Asia was the adventure of their dreams.

Foodies Si King and Dave Myers star in the new BBC Two series The Hairy Bikers' Asian Adventure, which sees them riding learning about the continent's food.

Dave said: "Asia is the trip we wanted to do since we started Hairy Bikers. Even before the Bikers, we wanted to go and have sushi at the Tsukiji fish market (in Tokyo). We knew one day in our lives we'd be there for breakfast at the fish market and we've done it. It was the trip we dream about."

But even after learning the tricks of making authentic Asian food, Si and Dave admitted nothing could put them off a good takeaway back home.

Asked whether he could go back to British Asian food, Si said: "Yes, of course we can. There's nothing like a good Thai. When you want a curry or you want Thai food, only curry or Thai food will do."

Dave added: "There's nothing wrong with on a Friday night going to the local takeaway and having the Chinese food. I'm in my 50s but I grew up in a small, Northern town and when I was a kid I could still know my chow mein from my chop suey.

"That's come on over the years, it's more sophisticated, but it's such a nice, quick hit of food and it can be healthy."

:: The Hairy Bikers' Asian Adventure starts on BBC Two on Thursday, February 13. An accompanying book is published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson, priced £20. Available now.
