Salma Hayek has revealed she used to get so down about her bad skin that she "couldn't leave the house".
The Frida actress said she battled acne when she was in her 20s and trying to make it in Hollywood.
She told Lucky magazine: "I had acne. And this acne was so bad, it sent me into a severe, severe depression. Like I couldn't leave the house.
"I'd wake up in the morning and lie there and touch my face before I got up, just to prepare myself to look in the mirror."
The mother-of-one - who now has her own beauty line called Nuance - went on: "The next stage with that sort of depression is food: too little, or too much. Guess what I did? I mean, I was fat and broken out, I couldn't leave the house and I couldn't pay the rent!"
Salma, 45, credits her friend, director Alfonso Cuaron, will helping her get back on track by teaching her to meditate and she also took medication to improve her skin.
