Hilary Duff targeted by thieves who made off with expensive jewellery - report
Robbers broke into Hilary Duff's Beverly Hills apartment after she posted holiday pictures on Instagram.
Hilary Duff has reportedly lost hundreds of dollars in jewellery after thieves broke in to her apartment.
The multi-talented singer and actress is believed to have been targeted after posting pictures of her holiday on Instagram, making eagle-eyed robbers aware that her Beverly Hills apartment was empty while she was on vacation.
The 29-year-old Younger star first sparked speculation she was away when she shared a snap of her son Luca in an inflatable dinghy being pulled along the ocean by a boat, captioning the picture: "Losing track of days. Collecting mosquito bites".
Hilary then posted a video of herself in a pink swimsuit doing a handstand before diving into the water, and wrote alongside the clip "Canada" - a sure indication that she was away.
According to editors at TMZ, the posts were enough to convince robbers looking to steal high-end jewellery to give her apartment a try.
Hilary's flat is said to have been broken into late on Wednesday night, with thieves breaking down the door before making off with hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of jewellery.
It is believed that Hilary's burglar alarm also didn't go off.
As the All About You singer is still enjoying her holiday, police apparently have yet to determine exactly what was stolen in the robbery.
It is becoming increasingly common for thieves to use social media sharing sites such as Instagram to identify empty homes. Former crime scene investigator Alex Iszatt told Mail Online that sites' location sharing features make it easy for criminals to get an idea of where you live, while posting snaps from your holiday destination is "a clear advertisement that your house is unoccupied."
