Hollywood praises single mums

Paul Hollywood's estranged wife has opened up on Twitter about coping without the TV star.

The Great British Bake-Off star Paul confirmed last month that he had separated from his wife Alexandra, with whom he has a son, after 15 years of marriage.

The baker has recently been working on The American Baking Competition, a US version of the Bake Off, with Marcela Valladolid, 34, taking the place of cookery guru Mary Berry.

Now Alexandra has written on Twitter: "I've lived in a bubble all these years. I had no idea of the strength you need to go it alone. Single mothers, I salute you!"

Earlier, she wrote: "Ahh... A visit to the hairdresser and some retail therapy works wonders."

Last month, the BBC denied reports that Paul's role on The Great British Bake Off was under threat following his split from his wife.

Producers of the BBC Two baking show were reported to be considering whether Paul should remain as a presenter following reports about his private life, while fellow judge Mary Berry was said to be threatening to quit the show if he was axed.

But a BBC spokesperson denied the reports, saying that Paul was a "highly-valued" part of the team.
