Ruth Langsford has playfully insisted that alcohol wasn't to blame for a nasty fall she suffered while attending a glamorous horse racing event at the weekend with her husband, Belfast-born Eamonn Holmes.

The This Morning presenters were among the crowd at the Epsom Races Derby Day on Saturday.

Ruth later posted a photograph showing her knees, which were bruised and scratched after falling over.

Captioning the Instagram image, the 59-year-old wrote: "So...wonderful day at the Derby until I fell over on my way out! Ouch! Before you ask...I WASN'T drunk! #fallingover 'embarrassing'."

Visible in the post was Ruth's blue lace dress, with floral detailing.

Eamonn, who looked suitably dapper for the occasion with black top hat and tails, offered comfort to Ruth - who is also a regular on ITV's Loose Women - by posting a comment underneath the picture, saying: "Poor you...I'll kiss them better darling."

Ruth's fellow Loose Women host Andrea McLean also offered words of sympathy, adding: "That looks very sore."

The couple were among a host of celebrities who arrived in style at the Epsom racecourse for this year's festivities.

On Saturday the Queen captivated fellow racing fans by wearing a blue floral dress.

Known for her love of horses, the Queen is a regular at racing events.
