Jason Derulo's slick show wows crowd at Odyssey
If you don't know who Jason Derulo is, you're probably not one of the 26 million people who have taken three of the US rapper's singles to the UK number one spot, or among his 12 million Facebook and Twitter followers.
For sure, Derulo – the phonetic spelling of the 24-year-old Miami native's real name, Desrouleaux – is a big deal, and his Northern Ireland fan base turned out in force last night for his Odyssey Arena debut.
The young crowd lapped up hits including Whatcha Say, Talk Dirty and Trumpets.
You'd never have guessed from Derulo's energetic dance routines that just two years ago, a serious neck injury had threatened to curtail his performing career for good.
And the screaming fans – many of them female – didn't seem to mind that the splits and backflips were often at the expense of the singing.
The girls from the audience who got to join the main man on stage for a live workout session certainly seemed impressed.
Derulo's show was loud, brash, silly, sexy and slick, and it'll take some time before this writer gets the chorus of Wiggle out of his head, whether he wants to or not.
