Jim Carrey cleared over death of Irish ex-girlfriend
Actor Jim Carrey has been cleared over involvement in the death of his Irish ex-girlfriend Cathriona White, and will not face a trial.
The actor has been embroiled in a bitter lawsuit after White's husband and mother sued him, saying the Hollywood star was responsible for her death by drug overdose in 2015.
White, from Cappaghwhite, Co Tipperary, was a make-up artist who dated Carrey intermittently between 2012 and 2015. She died, aged 30, at her home in Los Angeles after taking a cocktail of prescription drugs.
White's medical record and STD test results were recently found to be forged. White had changed details of a friend's clean 2011 test to suggest she had been infected only after starting a relationship with Carrey.
The matters were dismissed on January 25.
Michael Avenatti, the attorney acting for Brigid Sweetman and Mark Burton, issued a brief statement on their behalf, saying: "We have no further comment at this time."
The development comes a few months after Carrey filed a countersuit against his accusers, insisting they were trying to extort money. Carrey claimed that in 2013, Cathriona, with her lawyer Marchino's help, threatened to "go to the press" with false claims that he had given her STDs unless he paid her "millions of dollars".
