Jonny Mitchell ousted from Love Island as two evictees prepare to return

Mike Thalassitis and Sam Gowland are preparing to return to the Love Island villa.

Jonny Mitchell waved goodbye to Love Island on Tuesday night's (11Jul17) show, sacrificing his place on the matchmaking show to give ex Tyla Carr another shot at finding love.

The 26-year-old had started well on the ITV2 series, pairing up with nation's sweetheart Camilla Thurlow. However, fans quickly turned on him when he ditched Camilla for new arrival Tyla. And Jonny got a taste of his own medicine when Tyla called time on their romance to give things a go with athlete Theo Campbell.

But despite his chequered time on the programme, Jonny's villa mates all struggled to control their emotions as he put himself forward to leave the villa after he and Tyla were given the task of choosing which of them should leave following the public vote which put the duo last in the popularity stakes.

Upon leaving the show, Jonny responded to claims made by charity boss Polly Neate, the CEO of Women’s Aid, who accused him of being "controlling and abusive" in a blog on Huffington Post after he said Theo would have to prise Tyla from his "cold, dead hands" if he wanted to woo her.

Despite the criticism, Jonny insisted the remark was made "in jest", adding to the Mirror Online: "I think that comment to anyone who actually paid attention was quite clearly a joke.

"It wasn't something I'd take too literally to have something pried out of my dead hands, it was said in complete jest. I think, if anything, over the last day I had backed off from Tyla and given her time to get her head straight, so I don't think I can be described as controlling."

Meanwhile, Jonny's exit has made way for a couple of new boys to enter the villa. Love Island fans were told they could help decide which of the hopefuls would be joining the show, with evictees Mike Thalassitis and Sam Gowland among the potentials. New boys Jack and Scott are also hoping for a chance, but judging by viewers' response to the news on Twitter, it seems Mike and Sam might be shoe-ins.

"Why were the new guys even an option? Get sam and muggy mike back in there," one write, while another added, "Mike and Sam HAVE to go back into the villa, sorry new boys".
