Kate Hudson has said her actress mother didn't spoil her as a child.
The Hollywood beauty, 34, revealed that mum Goldie Hawn and her stepfather Kurt Russell did not want her to get used to material wealth.
She told Harper's Bazaar magazine: " My mom wasn't a big shopper for us.
"I think they wanted to instil that in us even though we grew up in a really privileged and lucky lifestyle."
Kate said she doesn't splash on top end designer dresses - because she can't afford them.
The mother of two, whose fiance is Muse star Matt Bellamy, said: "There are certain things I splurge on, but it's very rare, especially when you have two kids and school tuition. I'm not a big high-end fashion shopper.
"I wish I could but the truth is things are just so expensive."
She said of her red carpet attire: "People think we own all these dresses but we borrow them! I can't afford to buy that stuff."
