Keeping it country with Big Tom Festival
The 'Nashville of Ireland' is keeping things country with a new festival celebrating its most famous son next month.
At the heart of the Monaghan event will be the unveiling of a larger-than-life sculpture of Big Tom McBride who died, aged 81, in April.
The sculpture, one and half times the size of the man himself, will be unveiled at the Castleblayney Celebrates Big Tom Festival, which runs from September 21 to 23. The commission is taking shape in sculptor Mark Richards's studio in Ludlow, England. Taine King, Big Tom's niece and the photographer who took the pictures, described the work as "a true likeness".
