Kelly Reilly: I'm scared of fame

Kelly Reilly has confessed she is frightened of fame.

The Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows star has a successful film and TV career, also starring as DI Anna Travis in Lynda La Plante crime drama Above Suspicion, but revealed she has no desire to become a celebrity.

Kelly said: "It's a frightening, invasive world.

"You don't have any privacy left if you become famous and I want no part of it. I go shopping in Waitrose every week and nobody comes up to me, I can do anything I want.

"Sometimes I get recognised. If I was on the cover of magazines every other week or doing any of the other things I could be doing, it would be hard, but I'm just not interested."

Kelly grew up watching Dame Helen Mirren as Supt Jane Tennison in Lynda La Plante's Prime Suspect and won her first TV role aged just 17 in Prime Suspect: Inner Circles in 1995.

The 34-year-old actress is now playing DI Travis for the fourth time.

She said: "It does feel like I've come full circle - I remember not having a clue but loving it. It's a tremendous story for me. I feel very lucky."

Kelly is playing a heroin addict in the film Flight, with Denzel Washington, due to be released later this year.

:: Above Suspicion: Silent Scream starts on ITV1 on Monday, January 9.
