Kierston: I'm always single mums!

Kierston Wareing has joked that she's the go-to actress for single mother roles.

The 33-year-old has played single mums in Ken Loach film It's A Free World and Andrea Arnold's Fish Tank, and now plays a pregnant single mother in Channel 4 drama Top Boy.

She said: "There have been times when people think, 'Oh, single mum, let's get Kierston in!' And sometimes I do it because its really good."

She went on: "But The Shadow Line was really good. In The Holding I was farmer, so I had an accent and I was a fantastic mother, not like in Fish Tank, so that was different.

"I've got a film out now called Four and I'm a psycho in that, I've got no children in that at all. So things are slightly changing, but don't get me wrong, if the script's good I'll do it."

Strangely enough, Kierston hasn't even had children of her own, but she enjoyed playing pregnant Heather in Top Boy.

She said: "It felt quite nice... I wish I was pregnant, but I need to find a nice man first!"

"I would love to have a child in a year or so, but you never know what's waiting for you around the corner."

:: Top Boy starts on Channel 4 on Monday, October 31.
