Lauren Goodger opens up about relationship with jailed boyfriend
Lauren Goodger can't wait to spend time with lover Joey Morrison when he gets day release from prison.
Lauren Goodger credits daily prison phone calls for making her relationship with jailed boyfriend Joey Morrison so strong.
Former The Only Way Is Essex star Lauren started dating convicted criminal Joey, who was jailed for 16 years in 2010 for a string of violent drugs-related charges, last year (16), and even has his name tattooed on her wrist.
Opening up about how they manage to make the romance work despite Joey being kept behind bars, 30-year-old Lauren told Reveal magazine it’s all about constant communication.
“It costs him between £30 and £40 a week. He calls my house phone - which diverts to my mobile - so it’s cheaper for him,” she explained. “The (prison inmates) are unlocked in the day and are allowed 15-minute phone calls, so he calls me three times a days.
“It’s probably more than most normal couples talk. It means we’ve built a stronger bond, because we talk about everything.”
As well as the phone calls Lauren gets to enjoy time strolling around the grounds of HMP Standford Hill in Essex with her beau, though the dates are a far cry from the romances she’s enjoyed in the past, which included flashy holidays with former fiance Mark Wright and ex-boyfriend Jake McLean, a convicted armed robber, in Las Vegas and Dubai.
However Lauren does have a lot to look forward to, as Joey will soon be allowed to spend the day away from his cell especially as they've yet to consummate their unlikely romance.
She admitted during the interview that she hasn't yet had sex with her beau, "No! Not in the UK, not in our prisons. But that’s what makes our relationship old-fashioned, and it’s quite beautiful."
So she is looking forward to when the former drug dealer starts days release for more reasons that one.
“When he starts day release we’ll chill at home, see family or go shopping. The more he’s out, the more alone time we’ll get. It’s exciting when you’ve been waiting for something so long,” she enthused.
Lauren adds her family have come round to the idea of her dating someone in prison, and are just happy that she’s being treated well.
“I’d rather be in love and happy than be with someone who looks good on paper,” she said.
