Len: Craig will be great on Maestro

Craig Revel Horwood hasn't stopped talking about his upcoming conducting challenge on BBC Two show Maestro At The Opera, his fellow Strictly Come Dancing judge Len Goodman has revealed.

The Aussie dance expert will attempt to conduct an opera on the show, which will also feature DJ Trevor Nelson, actress Josie Lawrence and broadcaster and academic Professor Marcus du Sautoy.

"We've just done the Strictly tour and Craig was talking about it all the time. He's been listening to operas on his iPod and he's very, very excited about it," Len said.

Each apprentice on the show will be mentored by a professional conductor, and Len reckons Craig - known for his cutting put-downs on Strictly - will be well able to cope with criticism.

"He's one of these blokes who if he puts his mind to it, he really has a go at it. He was brilliant on Celebrity Masterchef, I'm sure he's going to give it his best shot. I think he'll be able to take criticism. The thing is with criticism is if you dish it out, you'll have to be able to take it back as well," he said.

Meanwhile, speculation is rife over who will take over from Strictly judge Alesha Dixon after her move to ITV1's Britain's Got Talent panel, with former judge Arlene Phillips among the rumoured names.

"I never really understood why Arlene got taken off the panel, I thought she was great and if she comes back that would be marvellous. I have no input into who they'll get. I've heard all sorts of people - Russell Grant, Darcey Bussell, the choreographer Karen Bruce - I don't know, perhaps they'll just have me, Bruno and Craig. Perhaps they'll just stay with the three blokes," Len said.
