Liam Neeson 'lost weight for new Martin Scorsese role'

By Staff Reporter

Liam Neeson's dramatic weight loss was apparently prompted by his role in a new Martin Scorsese production.

The Ballymena-born star was recently photographed looking gaunt, with fans expressing concern for the health of the Schindler's List Oscar nominee.

But now it is being reported that Neeson (63) lost 60lbs for his role in Silence, Martin Scorsese's live-action adaptation of the novel by Shusaku Endo.

The movie about Catholic persecution in 17th century Japan has wrapped in Taiwan, where Neeson had been playing Fr Cristovao Ferreira, a Portuguese Jesuit priest.

A source told Radar Online: "[Neeson] is as healthy as ever and as hungry for work as ever.

"He blames the weight loss on his changing diet, which was meant to just shave a bit off his beer gut for his movie Silence but went a little too far."
