Liam Neeson to pick name for Ballymena 'hub'

By Staff Reporter

Primary school children will help to name a new meeting place in the heart of Ballymena - with the winner to be selected by Hollywood superstar and home town hero Liam Neeson.

Work is under way on the town's new outdoor entertainment and creativity hub, the final stage of a multi-million pound investment.

With the regeneration project to be completed within weeks, A-lister Neeson has launched a competition to find a suitable name for Broadway's latest attraction.

He gave his support in a statement to Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, signed 'Liam Neeson, OBE and Proud Son of Ballymena'.

He said: "How appropriate that a wonderful new structure will be erected right bang in the middle of the town to be used as a gathering place, a place to shop, be entertained, meet the neighbours for a chat and a catch-up - set the world to rights!

"And also, more importantly, to show the world that we won't sit and 'lick our wounds' at losing two vital factory industries."

The council plans to contact primary schools throughout Ballymena, encouraging children to play their part in naming the new structure. Neeson will select his favourite from a shortlist.
