Madonna wants to be a tougher mum

Madonna has said she doesn't think she's a strict enough mum.

The singer, 53, was asked about the picture which recently appeared of her 15-year-old daughter Lourdes smoking a cigarette.

She told NBC show Rock Center with Brian Williams: "I think I am (tough) but I don't think I'm as tough as I should be. I think I need to be tougher... Cigarette smoking I'm not very fond of."

She added: "I don't approve of anyone smoking cigarettes, most of all my daughter."

The pop star was challenged about smoking a cigarette in a music video.

"I don't smoke. That's just an accessory, there's a difference," she said. "She smoked that cigarette before I did that video. She didn't get that from me."

The singer said there were "probably about 25" Madonnas.

"For my children it's probably the one that says 'have you done your homework, why did you say that, what are you eating that for?'," she told the US show.
