McBusted: Boyband 'supergroup' a hearty hit

By Amanda Ferguson

McBusted put on fast-paced, entertaining – and at times naughty – shows for their appreciative Belfast fans.

At the Odyssey Arena on Saturday night and again on Sunday, McFly and Busted kept what seemed to be mainly teenage girls truly enthralled during their lively gigs.

I am not the target demographic, but the combined musical efforts of Harry Judd, Dougie Poynter, Danny Jones, Tom Fletcher, James Bourne and Matt Willis resulted in me thoroughly enjoying myself.

The only person missing from the line-up is Busted former member, Charlie Simpson, who decided not to get involved in the new supergroup. I say 'supergroup'... If you like low-slung, loud guitars, big drum sounds, nice harmonies, fun lyrics about how awesome girls are, flashing lights and lots of bouncing about on stage, they could be the band for you.

The excited reaction from the teens sitting all around me when the boys (they are actually all in their late 20s and early 30s) took to the stage was hilarious.

The tracks Air Hostess and You Said No (Crash & Burn) got the party started.

The crowd went mad for Five Colours In Her Hair and pretty much all the other rock-pop songs laid on by the energetic performers.

On Saturday night the Odyssey floor area was half-full at best, but the vast majority of the seats in the venue were full and what the crowd lacked in numbers it made up for in enthusiasm.

A good show.

Four stars
