Melvin Odoom becomes first star kicked off Strictly Come Dancing

Kiss FM DJ Melvin Odoom became the first celebrity to be kicked off Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday night (02Oct16), after getting the lowest amount of votes from viewers.

Melvin Odoom was voted off Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday night (02Oct16).

The Kiss FM DJ failed to impress judges with his performance alongside partner Janette Manrara on Saturday night's show (01Oct16), and was on the bottom of the leaderboard following his routine.

Traditionally, a dance-off is performed by the two celebrities lowest on the scoreboard, but an injury sustained by singer Anastacia meant she couldn't compete in that stage of the competition.

Instead, the dance-off was cancelled and the star's exit was decided by the person who had received the lowest number of votes from viewers.

After being voted off, Melvin said: "I just need to say, every single person on this show; the contestants, the dancers, the production, the judges, everyone is absolutely amazing.

"It's a blessing to be on the show and thank you for Janette, it's been a great experience for me, thank you!"

Meanwhile, his partner Janette added: "Melvin is one of those individuals that you meet and never forget from the first moment you meet them.

"He's got such a beautiful soul, such a gorgeous smile, an infectious personality and I just want to thank you for making this, although short, an extremely sweet journey amazing for me."

Anastacia had suffered an injury while practising for her routine on Saturday night - tearing the inner scar tissue from the double mastectomy operation she had back in 2013 after battling breast cancer.

Her professional partner Brendan Cole modified her salsa routine to allow her to cope with the injury, but Anastacia still struggled with the moves.

While the Strictly rules state that the decision reverts to the public vote if a contestant can't compete in the dance-off, some fans were still left unimpressed by Melvin's forced exit.

"If Anastasia (sic) can't dance she should forfeit the competition and go out, not Melvin. #strictly," one person wrote, while another added, "I'm sorry but if you can't do the dance off then you should go home automatically."
