Mrs Brown's Boys star Rory Cowan to replace Al Porter in Dublin panto
Former Mrs Brown's Boys star Rory Cowan will replace Al Porter in the Olympia Theatre Christmas panto in Dublin.
Porter (24) stood aside from his role in Polly and the Beanstalk on Monday in the wake of several allegations of inappropriate behaviour.
“I am very happy to be joining the cast of The Olympia Theatre panto. I am a huge panto fan and treading the hallowed boards of The Olympia is a privilege for me," said Cowan.
Comedian and TV personality Porter was due to star in the production, which he co-wrote with Karl Spain, from December 15 until January 14.
It would have been his 13th year starring in the Olympia Theatre panto.
Rory Cowan recently departed Mrs Browns Boys after 26 years but he is no stranger to panto.
The Dublin star previously starred in Cinderella at the Tivola, opposite Alan Hughes.
Cowen will now appear opposite Dustin the Turkey, Fair City star Ryan Anderws, and Michaela O'Neill in the Olympia production.
Since the allegations began to emerge on Friday, Porter has resigned from his lunchtime slot with Today FM which he only began in February and TV3 pulled a repeat of his Blind Date show on Saturday night.
The comedian issued a statement on Sunday saying he had decided to take some time away from the spotlight.
"While my conduct, which had been in keeping with my flamboyant and outrageous public persona, maybe regarded as offensive and unacceptable by many people, I at no time intended to upset anyone," he said.
