Naomi and Liev Schreiber kept split secret ‘for months’

The Hollywood golden couple flew under the radar with their relationship breakdown, which came soon after Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s divorce announcement.

Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber kept their relationship breakdown a secret for a reported nine months.

The actors followed Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s shock announcement with one of their own, after they ended their 11 year relationship last month (Sep16).

The Impossible actress and the father of her two children released a statement which read: “The best way forward for us as a family is to separate as a couple.”

However, a source claims that in reality, the pair, who are parents to sons Alexander, ten and Samuel, eight, split months ago, and kept the news quiet so they could finish promoting a movie they had worked on together.

“They broke up ages ago, and have been living apart,” a source close told Heat magazine. “They had to do promotion for this new movie The Bleeder that they’re both in, and decided that they’d keep the split a secret until the press interviews – which were finished recently - were all done. The fact that Brad and Angelina also split made the timing even more perfect, because they could try to slide it under the radar.”

In movie The Bleeder, Naomi and Liev star as husband and wife in the sports biopic about the life of heavyweight boxer Chuck Wepner, played by Schrieber, and his 1975 fight against heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali, played by his Ray Donovan co-star Pooch Hall. Naomi plays his third wife Linda.

The Bleeder premiered at the 2016 Venice Film Festival on 2 September (16) and the couple made their split public just over three weeks later.

In contrast to the Jolie-Pitts, who are at present embroiled in a bitter custody battle, Naomi and Liev appear to be having a more civil time post-separation. The New York based couple have no plans to call in the lawyers, and the Ray Donovan star wished Naomi a “Happy 48th birthday” on her Instagram account.

“They’re not even getting lawyers for this- just a mediator,” the source added. “They have already worked everything out about living arrangements and custody of their kids. It will be a very dignified break-up. They just simply grew apart.”
