Liam Neeson has backed a campaign aiming to save the railway station featured in classic film The Quiet Man.

Ballyglunin station has fallen into disrepair since it was filmed by John Ford for his 1952 classic starring Maureen O'Hara and John Wayne.

But the Ballymena movie star has now contacted activists raising funds to restore it.

Neeson said: "The station in Co Galway played a significant part in that film. It is now showing its age and requires urgent repair. We must save this iconic building, otherwise it will be lost."

He also urged people to visit fundit.ie/project/save-the-quiet-man-train-station and ballyglunin.com to show their support.
