New Star Wars Lego set includes Co Kerry's Skellig Michael

The Co Kerry island which features in the new Star Wars films has now taken the form of Lego.

Skellig Michael has been immortalised in a new range of merchandise from the franchise, which featured in 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The island will also appear in the upcoming latest instalment Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

The merchandise is being released ahead of the film's release next month.

Fans saw Star Wars hero Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, arrive on the island to meet the iconic Luke Skywalker, played by Mark Hamill, at the end of The Force Awakens.

The new film will pick up the scenes on Skellig Michael, which has been renamed Ahch-To in the film.

Lego's Ahch-To Island Training set features a miniature corbelled hut and three figures, including Luke Skywalker, Rey and a Porg - a new species of fluffy, flappy-winged sea birds which are native to the fictional area.

It also includes smaller trinkets, including a fish, a frying pan, and a lightsabre.

Since featuring in the Star Wars franchise, visitor numbers to Skellig Michael have surged. from approximately 2,000 to 16,700 this year compared to 2016.
