Newsreader Kate Silverton has announced she is pregnant after years of trying for a baby

Newsreader Kate Silverton has announced that she is pregnant, her spokesman said.

The 40-year-old BBC journalist and her husband Michael Heron are expecting a baby in October.

She said she conceived the child naturally after several failed IVF attempts.

The television presenter, who is four months pregnant, said she is "extremely excited " with the news after trying to conceive for a number of years.

"We are absolutely thrilled," she said.

"We had given up all hope of having a family after years of trying so this seems like a minor miracle.

"Despite a number of IVF attempts this pregnancy happened quite naturally and came as a wonderful surprise.
