Two young artists from Northern Ireland have been honoured for their outstanding artworks after they were recognised by the judges of an all-Ireland competition.

Justin Cole (15), from Dunclug College in Ballymena, came second in Category B (14-15 years) of the 64th Texaco Children's Art Competition for his self-portrait.

No stranger to the competition, Justin - who took home €350 in prize money yesterday - won a Special Merit Award in last year's competition.

In Category C (12-13 years), the second prize of €250 was won by 13-year old student Sophie Ward, from St Paul's High School, Bessbrook, Co Armagh, for her pencil sketch entry entitled Eye Spy.

The overall winner was Hetty Lawlor, a 17-year-old student from Mayo.

The awards were announced at a reception held in Dublin's Royal Hibernian Academy yesterday.
