Northern Ireland musicians join Niall Horan's new band

One Direction star Niall Horan has taken to social media to introduce his new live band - and two of the group hail from Northern Ireland.

Posting on his Snapchat, Horan took pictures of each member of his backing band, which included drummer Gerry Morgan, from Newry and bassist John Bird, from Rostrevor.

Morgan has previously toured with singer James Bay.

Horan is currently promoting his new single Slow Hands, performing a number of shows in the US.

The Mullingar singer is also preparing for his first appearance at Wembley Stadium as a solo artist for Capital’s Summertime Ball in June.

Speaking about stepping on the iconic stage by himself, Horan told Capital Breakfast host Roman Kemp: “You’re stepping out in front of 80,000 people, it’s going to be scary.

“But you have to relish it at the same time, you know they’re your songs, people know them that are coming to watch, because they listen to the station, they’re going to have a good day and you’re amongst a great line-up.”

The singer performed at the Summertime Ball in 2015 as part of One Direction.
