Ryan O'Neal's son Redmond has been jailed in Southern California following a drugs arrest, and hours later his brother was taken to hospital after a car crash.
Sgt Richard Lewis of Santa Monica police said Redmond O'Neal was pulled over at about 8.30am on Tuesday after an officer saw him fail to stop at a red light. A search of his car uncovered heroin, he said.
Redmond, 26, who is on probation over a previous drug case, was not given bail.
Redmond, the son of actor Ryan and the late Farrah Fawcett, has a history of substance abuse problems. He completed a drug diversion programme last year but remains on probation for taking drugs to a Los Angeles County jail in 2009.
It later emerged that Griffin O'Neal, 46, was taken to hospital after a collision in San Diego County.
San Diego police sergeant David Jennings said Griffin was behind the wheel of a car in San Pasqual Valley Road in Escondido on Tuesday afternoon when he veered into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle.
Sgt Jennings said Griffin complained of pain and was taken to Palomar Medical Centre. He was later discharged.
