Patrick Kielty and Cat Deeley 'beyond delighted' at birth of son

By Colin O'Carroll

Funnyman Patrick Kielty and his wife Cat Deeley have announced the birth of a baby son, the couple's first child.

TV presenter Deeley said she was "beyond delighted", adding that the pair "couldn't be happier" after the birth last week.

The 39-year-old married Co Down comedian Kielty in September 2012, having been longtime friends, and revealed in September that they were to become parents.

Deeley tweeted: "Beyond delighted to announce the birth of our baby boy last week. All doing well & we couldn't be happier... 3 really is the magic number!"

Kielty retweeted the post.

The 44-year-old from Dundrum had previously joked about having children with Brummie Deeley, saying: "I hope any child we might have has Cat's looks and my accent. With our two strong accents, we basically needed subtitles or a UN translator."

Before the birth Cat revealed the pair planned to stay in the US, where she has a burgeoning TV career presenting So You Think You Can Dance.

She told a magazine: "We're going to ensure we take the baby back home to visit our families as much as possible, but for now we're happy here in LA and are excited to bring up our child with an outdoors lifestyle."

Kielty had a more tongue-in-cheek assessment. He quipped that he was not sure he wanted to raise the couple's firstborn among the "hippy-dippy" people of the Golden State.

The couple first met presenting talent show Fame Academy together in 2002 and stepped out as an item a decade later in March 2012.

Celebrities have been sending congratulations. Declan Donnelly of Ant and Dec, who worked with Deeley on Saturday morning kids show SM:TV, tweeted his good wishes.

"Congratulations @catdeeley and @PatricKielty on your new arrival Lots of love to the three of you D xx," he wrote.

Local personalities have also been sending their regards.

UTV's Pamela Ballantine tweeted: "Many congratulations to family Kielty. Delighted for you all. Hope @PatricKielty gets his figure back soon."

Radio presenter Siobhan McGarry added: "It's a boy! Huge congrats 2 @catdeeley @PatricKielty - the 1st little #DeeleyKielty".
