Paul O'Grady shocks Blind Date audience with Cilla Black cocaine quip

Paul O'Grady filmed his debut episode of the Channel 5 reboot in London on Thursday night.

Paul O'Grady shocked the audience with a joke about {Cilla Black} taking cocaine as he filmed the first episode of the Blind Date reboot on Thursday night (06Apr17).

The bespectacled star was announced as the host of the dating show reboot following the death of close friend Cilla in August, 2015. During the filming on Thursday, he reportedly didn't hold back with his jokes about his pal during what The Sun deemed a "chaotic" debut on the show.

Slip-ups and blunders were multiple during the programme, and after one blunder Paul quipped: "How the f**k did Cilla do this for 25 years? No wonder she was on cocaine. God bless her, wherever she is.

Her spirit is here you know, p**sing herself laughing at me and ruining my show - causing all the issues. What can I do now? Oh I think I’ll go and have a line of coke while I wait."

A show insider assured Cover Media that Paul was joking when he made the remark.

Among Paul's other revelations during the recording at London Studios was the claim that Cilla had left him Blind Date, which she hosted between 1985 and 2003, in her will.

"Why am I doing it? Oh yeah that’s right - Cilla left it for me in her will. No seriously, she made me do it," he laughed.

He also insisted the maternal image Cilla forged during her time in the public eye was in contrast to the person she was in private.

Describing her wild side, Paul claimed: "You all thought Cilla was all mumsy, but you’re out of your mind if you think that. She bust my nose in a Jacuzzi in Barbados. What a mad woman she was."

Paul had to undergo surgery after the injury which, it was claimed at the time, occurred when he slipped in the hot tub.
