Peter Andre: 'Stepson Harvey taught me how to be a dad'

Singer and TV personality Peter Andre helped to raise Harvey when he was married to Katie Price.

Peter Andre credits his relationship with stepson Harvey for teaching him to be a father.

The singer and TV personality started dating former glamour model Katie Price when Harvey, now 15, was just a toddler, with the couple later welcoming son Junior, 11, and daughter Princess, nine.

Peter married Katie in 2005 and took a hands-on role with Harvey, who doesn't have a relationship with his biological father, footballer Dwight Yorke.

While the duo has often been at odds since their divorce in 2009, with the reality star claiming that Peter no longer sees her son, the 44-year-old has now credited Harvey with showing him what parenthood is all about.

"Obviously the first child that taught me to be a dad was Harvey, then Junior and Bista, which is what I call Princess, then we have Amelia, who is three, and Theodore at six months, so our hands are full!" he told Sydney's KIIS FM. "They keep me very young!"

Now married to wife Emily MacDonagh, with whom he shares his two youngest children, the Mysterious Girl singer is an old hand at the parenting game and shared during the chat that he's a strict parent to his children, banning social media and demanding good manners, just like his own father.

"(Junior) is a good looking boy and a very polite boy, I'm a bit too strict on him unfortunately," he explained, as he promoted his upcoming Greatest Hits homecoming tour of Australia.

"I mean, they roll their eyes at me all the time, telling them to have manners and to be respectful to people and all those sort of things. But my dad was super strict with me so I don't regret doing any of those things," he said, adding, "It's just about finding that balance."

Peter's Greatest Hits tour of Australia kicks off in Brisbane on 18 November (17), with shows in the Gold Coast, Adelaide, Sydney, and Melbourne, before concluding in Perth on 26 November.
