Police end probe into 'assault' on Strictly's Gorka Marquez in Blackpool

Police have closed an investigation into a reported "assault" on Strictly Come Dancing star Gorka Marquez.

The professional dancer was said to have been beaten up by a gang of youths on a street in Blackpool just hours after he took part in the BBC1 live show last month

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "We have carried out a proportionate investigation which is now closed. No arrests have been made.

"We have never received a complaint from the victim and any injuries sustained would seem to be of a minor nature.

"We will always take reports of crime seriously and would urge anyone who has been a victim to come forward so they can assist us in our inquiries."

It was reported that the Spaniard would need dental surgery after having two teeth broken when he was punched in the face as "a group of local louts came out of nowhere".

The 26-year-old was said to have been targeted as he walked to the resort's Flamingo nightclub with fellow dancers Aljaz Skorjanec and Neil Jones.

Marquez later tweeted: "Thanks for all your kind messages and support about Blackpool.

"It was a bad experience but I'm feeling better and just want to look forward to the show on Saturday."

The incident, following the televised live show at Blackpool Tower Ballroom on Saturday November 19, was not reported to the police.

Marquez returned to rehearsals the following week and was sent flowers by tourism chiefs in Blackpool.

He has appeared in group dance routines in the series after his celebrity partner, EastEnders actress Tameka Empson, was voted out.
