A US rap star of the Nineties is heading to Co Tyrone tonight.

Coolio continues his world tour with a gig at the Town House bar in Castlederg.

The West Coast artist, whose Gangsta's Paradise is considered one of the most successful rap songs of all-time, is used to playing in venues like Las Vegas, San Francisco and London.

But he has agreed to a one-night-only performance at Dave Doherty's bar in the town.

Mr Doherty, who has stocked up on Coolio's favourite brands of alcohol as requested by the artist, said he is very excited.

He said: "All this came about through my involvement with Derg Fest. I have brought UB40, Westlife's Shane Filan in previous years, so I know Coolio's agent.

"We were looking for him for the Derg Fest festival but the dates didn't suit, but he told me Coolio did do random shows and I reckoned you don't get any more random than Castlederg.

"We are actually moving away from the bar and turning the place more into a proper music venue with a proper stage, so I said would he do a night for us and his agent said Coolio had Googled Castlederg and said yes."

According to Mr Doherty, Coolio has been touring for some time, but he does like to go off the beaten track every now and again.

He added: "He is a bit more high maintenance than the other acts we have had.

"He has asked for particular brands of Champagne and various spirits and stuff, but apparently he is quite a nice guy."
