Reese Witherspoon cried writing birthday letter to daughter
The star's eldest child wants to keep her celebrations low-key.
Reese Witherspoon turned into a sobbing "puddle of snot" as she penned a heartfelt letter to her daughter ahead of her upcoming 18th birthday.
Ava Phillippe, the Legally Blonde star's eldest child with her ex-husband Ryan Phillippe, will celebrate her birthday on Saturday (09Sep17), and her mother has reflected on the young woman her daughter has become in a personal note she plans to gift the teen this weekend.
"I have a special something that I'm gonna give her," Reese told U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America. "I wrote a letter to her that I'm really excited about. It's incredible to think back about all that time, and the things that they've (kids) learned and who they've become..."
The Oscar winner admits she was unable to hold back the tears as she poured her heart out in the letter, and it wasn't a pretty sight.
"I was a messy, sobbing heap of like, a puddle of snot!," the mother-of-three quipped.
In addition to the sweet message, Reese is also planning a low-key family dinner for Ava, as the teen didn't want to do anything extravagant.
She added, "We're just gonna go out to dinner; she just wants it (her birthday) to be really quiet."
Reese previously gushed about her lookalike daughter after they posed together on the red carpet while promoting mum's Big Little Lies series earlier this year (17).
"I do see the resemblance," she told Vanity Fair of their strikingly similar features. "She's a beautiful person inside and out. She's just a good soul. I'm not sure what she thinks (of my career). I'm just 'Mum' to her. We're happy to share this wonderful experience. I really have a rich, personal relationship with my daughter. I have a really great career, and it's nice to be able to share it with my kids."
Reese and Ryan, who divorced in 2007, also share son Deacon, 13, while the actress and her second husband Jim Toth are parents to four-year-old boy Tennessee.
