Review: Ex-Doves man flies high

By Joanne Savage

Goodwin came to fame as lead singer and bassist with indie band Doves, who rode a wave that began in the '90s with a Brit-pop era of plaintive moodiness shaped by The Verve, Blur, Oasis and their ilk.

He is warmly received in Belfast and offers some gruff balladry with its best moments in songs like Didsbury Girl, Panic Tree and Oh! Whiskey.

Goodwin is to tour with Elbow soon and his melodic register is finely attuned to the contemporary alternative vibe.
