Robbie Williams Swings Both Ways is UK's 1,000th No1

By James Edgar and Andy Welch

ROBBIE Williams swung his way in to the history books today as his latest record became the 1,000th number one in the UK album charts.

Swings Both Ways shot straight to the top spot, beating off Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP 2 by 67,000 copies.

The 39-year-old singer said although claiming the 1,000th number one was a "nice thing", reaching the chart summit was more important.

"It's a nice bit of synchronicity, and nice that it hasn't gone unnoticed, but I don't know what it means, really," the Take That star said.

Swings Both Ways is Robbie's second chart-topping swing album, after Swing When You're Winning in 2001.
